Q. What is Spark Streaming Innovation Contest?
The Spark Streaming Innovation Contest is an online event on the StreamAnalytix platform. It is an opportunity for you to experience the StreamAnalytix platform, build an application on it, and win cash prizes upto USD 10,000.
You can participate in the event from the comfort of your home or office or any other place that has a good internet connection.
Q. How do I register for the Hackathon?
You can register for the Contest on this page – https://www.streamanalytix.com/contest. To register, complete the registration form by creating your StreamAnalytix account and providing the participants’ details.
On submitting the registration form, you will receive an email to verify your email address. On successful email verification, you will get another email with links to access the StreamAnalytix platform hosted on cloud and related documentation to get started.
Q. What are the prizes for the Contest?
The winning team gets a cash prize of USD 10,000. The first runner up gets USD 5,000 and the second runner up gets USD 3,000. A special student winner award of USD 2,000 is also being given – bringing the total prize money to USD 20,000.
Q. Do I need to pay any money to register for the Contest?
No. You do not have to pay anything to anyone to register yourself for the Contest.
Q. Do I need to have any specific qualifications to be a participant for the Contest?
If you are passionate about streaming data analytics, you are more than welcome to participate in the Contest.
Q. How do I submit what I have made for the Contest?
You have to develop an application on the StreamAnalytix platform hosted on cloud provided to you by us and submit your work by filling a form on the Contest Page under Submissions tab.
Q. Can I make multiple submissions?
If you are not satisfied with your submission, you can submit a better solution again. You can make multiple submissions before the contest ends, but the latest submission will replace the last one.
Q. Does one have to be online and available for the entire duration of the Contest?
No, one does not need to be logged in on the StreamAnalytix platform or be online for the entire duration. You can develop the application when you have time till March 31 and then submit your solution on the StreamAnalytix website, on the Contest page.
Q. Do I need to give a demo for the product that I have built?
If you want you can submit a small presentation or video that demos your submission, however it’s not mandatory, and only good to have. In case you are one of the winners, you might be invited to demo your application at an offline event, details of which will be shared with sufficient advance notice.
Q. Do I have to participate alone or can it be a team?
You can either choose to be an individual participant or participate in a team of maximum three members.
Q. If it is a team submission, does that mean all the team members will have separate accounts?
No, there will only one account per team. All the team members need to access the StreamAnalytix application hosted on cloud using the same login credentials shared on the registered email address provided at the time of registration.
The same login credentials will be required to view or edit the registration details and making the submissions.
Q. Who will own the IP (Intellectual Property) Rights to the product that I have built?
All ideas and projects contributed will be owned by Impetus without any restrictions of copyright, working rights or any moral rights. The Team/Individuals are free to use the source code in any of their efforts without being sued by Impetus.
Q. On what basis will my work be judged?
Your product will be judged on the following criteria:
1. Quality of the Application (Includes creativity, originality, and “wow” factor of the solution).
2. Extent to which the StreamAnalytix tool was utilized (maximum use of StreamAnalytix operators excluding Channels & Emitters, and the use of StreamAnalytix built-in Dashboards for data visualization).
3. Quality of the submission (Includes how well the solution is described and documented)
The decision of the judges will remain final to all aspects of the Contest.
Q. How do I follow the challenge and get updates?
When you register for the challenge, you’ll automatically be signed up to receive email updates about it.
Q. Who can I contact if I have questions about the challenge?

Q. What do I need to use to build my app?
To build your app, all you need is the StreamAnalytix tool that we will provide to you for the entire contest duration.
Q. Do I need to upload a video?
A video will be helpful in understanding your thought process and the solution. You may create a screencast or use a handheld video camera to make your video, or choose any other method suitable. Video is totally optional.
Q. Who is eligible to enter the competition?
The challenge is open to individuals (18 or older) and teams of individuals maximum three. An individual cannot join more than one team, and an individual who is part of a team cannot enter the Contest on an individual basis.
Q. How will the prize money be split among the team members?
If a team of more than one member is entering the Contest, it must appoint and authorize one individual (the “Representative”) to represent and act on the behalf of all the team members. The Representative will be responsible for entering a Submission on the StreamAnalytix website and splitting the prize among all the team members.
Q. What else will you do with my submission?
Impetus Technologies Inc. reserves the right to publicly display your submission on its website. They will also be allowed to publicize your name on the Contest page in connection with the submission and its conclusion. For more information on publicity rights, please see the Official Rules.
Q. How will you announce the winners and do I need to visit you to collect prize?
Winners will be announced on the StreamAnalytix website in April 2017. All the winners will also get a notification email with instructions to collect the prizes.
